The Technology Solutions Group (TSG) has had a very busy year. By having dedicated people, the range and breadth of the types of systems designed has expanded to satisfy more complicated customer requirements. An example of one of these systems is shown below:

Working with Trius, Inc., Bohemia, NY, the TSG group, with the help of Muncie employees Brad Smith and Fred Brandt, designed and packaged the hydraulic systems for eight of these Runway plow trucks. Each one utilizes two high capacity, variable displacement piston pumps, 100 gallon reservoirs, and valve enclosures.

These trucks run four abreast in a “conga-line” at up to 70 MPH. When they reach the end of the runway and as the driver slides into a u-turn they have less than ten seconds to raise the plow, rotate it 180º, and bring it back down to a “float” position. These 5000 lb. plows rotate in under 6 seconds at idle. When controlled with our MP² joystick the driver described the performance as “sweet”.

One of the two Muncie piston pumps is used to drive the Epoke salt spreaders while the other is devoted strictly to the plow. Trius is anticipating orders for more of these once proven.
