Question of the Month

Question: Does the installer of a Muncie CS series PTO on an Allison World Transmission (3000 and 4000) need to interface with the Generation IV controls for PTO operation?

Answer: Allison recommends that installers interface with the Generation IV controls for PTO operation. Interfacing with the Transmission Control Module (TCM) allows the user to control engagement through the in-cab “mode switch.” The user will also be able to capitalize on built in over-speed protection and engine idle speed optimization when using Allison’s calibration software. Contact your local dealer or service center for more information on calibrating the PTO operation parameters.

Please note, at this time PTO operation is possible without connecting to the TCM. Muncie’s supplied installation kit will provide all necessary items needed for either type of installation. However, future changes to the internal pressures in the World Series Transmissions could require connecting to the Generation IV controls.

Answered by Pat Goul, Product Application Specialist, and Rick Wallace, PTO Product Manager.
